Commercial flooring FAQs
Polypropylene is one of the most common carpet materials as it’s an extremely durable fibre, stain resistant and less prone to mould and mildew, making it an excellent choice for heavy traffic areas as well as easy to clean and maintain.
Wool Carpet can handle heavy traffic and keep its original appearance for many years if it’s well maintained. It is very resilient and has strong bounce-back qualities although it is not quite resilient as polypropylene. Wool fibres also have tiny microscopic scales which help prevent the carpet from soiling and disperse light.
The average cost will be £10 -£20 per square metre, a premium-grade carpet with a deep plush and quality material is likely to cost £25-£30 per square metre. When you’re budgeting it’s also important to remember that underlay can be a surprising and often a forgotten cost.
Lighter neutral colours are great for creating a minimalist décor and can make the appearance of a small space seem larger. Darker carpets can make large rooms feel cosier and are generally better for high traffic areas hiding dirt and footfall.
The experts say select a carpet that is 2 shades lighter or darker than the walls for optimal visual interest. But we think this is really a personal choice to customers own preference and colour scheme they have in mind.
The quality of the carpet is determined by the thickness of the fibres and how tightly they are packed. The thicker and heavier they are, the better quality of the carpet.
There are many factors to what makes a carpet high quality such as thickness and tightness of the pile, durability of the fibres and the general feel of the carpet samples.
Velvet Piles is arguably the most luxurious looking carpet, it has a smooth and almost suede like appearance. But a deep soft pile saxony is a more popular alternative.
The longest lasting carpet comes in a frieze or berber style, one of the main reason’s for this is the loop pile construction is locked over keeping the pile short and tight. Most materials will hold up for 5 – 10 years.
Polypropylene carpet is the most hard wearing carpet, it’s soft to touch but stain resistant and incredibly hard wearing, polypropylene carpets offer excellent value for money and are ideal for any room in the home.
